Friends of Mount Carleton to hold annual meeting

The Friends of Mount Carleton Park will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, July 19 in the kitchen shelter of the Armstrong Brook campground at Mount Carleton Provincial Park from 2 to 4 p.m. Everybody is welcome to attend the meeting and the park is also holding a variety of activities in celebration of Canada Parks Day.
The Friends of Mount Carleton Park (FOMC) was formed in 2007 by concerned citizens that wanted to improve, protect and assist in the management and stewardship of the park. The FOMC supplements and enhances the educational, recreational, research and resource protection activities in ways which link health ecosystems with healthy human populations.
"The aim is to restore the park's infrastructure to a high standard and enable New Brunswickers and others to discover and appreciate the park," the FOMC stated. "The aim is also to preserve and restore historic buildings (camps) and protect the park's biodiversity as well as encourage volunteer support to complement park activities." In celebration of Canada Parks Day, there will be hiking, canoe and kayak demonstrations as well as a demonstration on how to build wooden canoes.
The annual meeting of the FOMC will include the election of a new slate of officers as well as explanations on the upgrades taking place at the park this summer. The FOMC will also discuss future opportunities and endeavors it plans to undertake.
