Boulet Wins Aroostook Valley Field Day

The Allstar Communications NB Senior Men’s Player of Year Championship went North on Monday for the Aroostook Valley Senior Field Day hosted by the Aroostook Valley Country Club. Pierre Boulet (Hampton) picked up his first victory of the season with a score of 69, good for 20 points in the Allstar Communications NB Senior Men’s Player of Year standings.

In second place was Edmundston’s Dave McFarland who shot a 70, gaining 17 points.

Other results at Aroostook saw Jack Cunningham (Fredericton) finish in 3rd place with a score of 72, collecting 14 points. Sharing 4th place was John Brown (Riverside), Gary Greene (Covered Bridge) and Herman Steeves (Mactaquac) with scores of 74, gaining 10.3 points each. In 3-way tie for 7th place was Bob Wilson (Aroostook), Eli Richard (Memramcook) and Florin Allen (Covered Bridge) with scores of 75 -7 points each. Picking up 10th place was Earl Simpson and Jean LeBlanc with scores of 76 -4.5 points each, while Curtis Sappier (Aroostook), Ken Perley (Aroostook) and Jud Giberson (Covered Bridge) shared 12th place with scores of 77 -2 points each.

Rounding up the top 15 was Warren Tremblay (Aroostook) and Greg Blake (Fredericton) with scores of 78 points -0.5 points each.

There are a total of 12 Allstar Communications Senior Men's Player of the Year events being held this summer throughout the province.

The Allstar Communications NB Senior Men's Player of the Year Championship will operate in similar fashion to the existing men's, ladies' and junior player of the year championships currently offered by the NBGA. Players will collect points at various events throughout the summer and the player with the highest accumulated total at the end of the year will be named the "Allstar Communications NB Senior Men's Player of the Year." The championship is open to all Senior males who are NBGA members and who reach the age of 55 by Sept. 9th, 2008.

After three events, John Brown (Riverside) with a total of 60.3 points leads the Allstar Communications NB Senior Men's Player of the Year Standings. Brown is followed in 2nd place, by Jean Leblanc (Maplewood) with 39.75 points, while Pierre Boulet (Hampton) sits in 3rd place with 25 points. Shane Hayward (Riverside) is in 4th place with 25 points and Guy MacKnight (Country Meadows) is in 5th place with 20.5 points. Jack Cunningham (Fredericton) picks up 6th place with 19.5 points and Ernie MacKinnon (Fredericton) and Dave McFarland share 7th place with 17 points. Gilles Masse (Gowan Brae) and Gary Breen (Hampton) are tied for 9th place with 15.5 points and Larry Simpson (Fredericton) is in 11th place with 14 points.
