With municipal elections scheduled for May 12, it was time for some familiar faces around the Perth-Andover village council table to say goodbye at the April 14 council meeting. The village will have a new mayor and two new village councillors when the next municipal council is sworn in for a four-year term.

Dan Dionne, chief administrative officer, told councillors he felt the outgoing council "was one of the better ones we have had over the years" and he enjoyed working with the municipal leaders.

"Hopefully the next one would be just as good," he commented.

Outgoing Mayor Karen Titus, who decided to vacate her mayor's position for a council seat, told council that she had enjoyed her seven years as mayor. She thanked Coun. Dave Morgan, Coun. Rick Beaulieu. Coun. Jim Baird, Coun. Susan Murchison and Deputy Mayor Carter Kennedy for their hard work.

"I appreciate all of the work that you have done and we did have a good working group. I would also like to thank Dan (Dionne, chief administrative officer) and Justine (Waldeck, assistant clerk) for their hard work. It has been a privilege to work with all of you to improve the community….The mayor's position is demanding and takes a lot of time. I would like to spend more time with my family."

Outgoing Coun. Jim Baird also felt the outgoing council had been a good working group.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on council. We have a good working relationship with the staff, and I am disappointed that I cannot re-offer. I wish the returning councillors and all of you well."

Coun. Baird is a four-term veteran of Perth-Andover council. In 2005 the federal Public Services Commission ruled municipal council service was a political act and he would have to take leave without pay to run again for the village.

Deputy Mayor Kennedy publicly acknowledged Mayor Titus' hard work for the village.

"You have done an excellent job representing us at the local level, provincial level and federal level," he told Mayor Titus.
