Two are in and two are out. Plaster Rock Mayor Judy St. Peter will run for that post again in the May 2008 municipal elections and Coun. Suzanne Mullin has also decided to re-offer for a seat at the council table. Coun. Mike Jarvis and Laura Reynolds, however, confirmed they will not be running.

Mayor St. Peter noted she ran four years ago to become a councilor and was named deputy mayor. After the death of Mayor Peter White, St. Peter took on the position of acting mayor and for the past year, the role of mayor.

"Circumstances changed and I had to take on a lot more responsibility," Mayor St. Peter said in a prepared statement.

Mayor St. Peter acknowledged it has been a busy time with the village accomplishing several goals, including the Tobique-Plex, and seeing the call center create about 80 jobs in the community.

"I will go to the residents now asking for their vote to give me a full four-year mandate to serve as mayor," St. Peter said. "There are many things on-going in the village. I would like to see the Tobique-Plex financing finalized with more federal and provincial money secured by the village as well as funds from continued fundraising."

Mayor St. Peter said she would work closely with the village CAO and other council members to "do all we can to help Fraser's mill continue operation as well as work towards attracting new industry to our area to create more jobs".

Mayor St. Peter said council has started to address the doctor shortage in the area and plans to continue making that its number one priority.

"I thank all the residents for their support, interest and involvement in our village," the mayor said. "When we all work together great things happen."

The mayor added any residents with questions or concerns "about any decision I have made as a councilor or mayor, don't hesitate to call and we'll talk about it".

Deputy Mayor Mike Jarvis also prepared a statement on his decision not to re-offer.

"The past four years have been a wonderful learning experience for me as well as quite busy and challenging at times," he stated. "This council has undertaken many initiatives, some of them being major projects. I now want to take time to pursue challenges of a personal nature."

Jarvis noted he served the Canadian people and the people of the community collectively for more than 35 years.

"I feel that it is now time for me to pass the torch of public service to others who I am confident will step forward," he added.

"The village is blessed with employees who realize that their ultimate goal is service to the people of Plaster Rock and who work hard to achieve this goal. "

"I will miss working with all of them. I thank council, our village employees and the people of Plaster Rock who have all placed their trust in me over the past four years."
