
A soggy mess
Many will long remember the flood of 2008. Despite the fact that winter ice ran out of the Upper St. John River valley without any fanfare in mid-April, the river had an unpleasant surprise for valley residents. Heavy rain and warmer temperatures early last week spiked the river to flood levels that, without the aid of ice jams to block the river have not been seen in decades.
Survey says GF residents want to keep town police
The approval numbers are a politician's dream come true. A public opinion survey of Grand Falls residents indicated that 85 per cent were satisfied with the town's 16- member municipal police force, and only 30 per cent of the survey respondents want to replace the municipal force with the RCMP.
'Don't vote for me' - Pelletier
Despite the fact that his name is on the municipal elections ballot for Grand Falls, Mario Pelletier is asking voters in the South Ward NOT to vote for him on May 12.

Appearing in Grand Falls provincial court on April 29, David Godreau, 46, pleaded not guilty to a charge of committing an assault on Tina Ouellette on Dec. 26, 2007 in Arthurette. His trial will be held on Sept. 11.

Overturned truck closes stretch of TCH
A single-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer closed off a section of the Trans Canada Highway north of Grand Falls on Sunday, April 27. The truck, owned by G.M. Rioux and Son Ltd. of Grand Falls, was transporting potatoes when its driver lost control of the vehicle which left the roadway and struck the guardrail.

But he was upset and frustrated when his long-term employer, the Government of Canada, told him he had to leave his job at the Canada Border Services Agency if he wanted to return as municipal councillor.
