Help me get home: This adult female German shepherd was brought to the Victoria County SPCA animal shelter in Arthurette on April 17 as a stray found in the Anderson Road area. The SPCA would like to hear from anyone who recognizes her, knows if she has owners or has any information about her.

The kittens are a couple of months old and have lots of energy. One is mostly white with a black ear, one is black and white and one is tabby with white markings. They are in good health but are receiving some treatment for ear mites.

The SPCA also has a large adult female German shepherd that was brought in as a stray from the Anderson Road area. The SPCA would like to hear from anyone who recognizes the dog, knows if it has owners or has any information on its background. Although it was found on the Anderson Road, it is possible it came from somewhere else as dogs tend to wander at this time of year. The dog was brought to the shelter on April 17.

The SPCA wants to stress that any owner with an injured pet must be responsible and provide veterinary care. Recent incidents brought to their attention highlight the need for pet owners to take their ownership responsibilities seriously.

The SPCA would like to thank local student Harley Smith for holding a car wash where she raised $22 for the SPCA. Her efforts will benefit the dogs and cats at the shelter.

National Volunteer Week is April 27 to May 3 and the SPCA wants to thank its many hardworking volunteers. The efforts of those who sell tickets, collect donations at the NB Liquor Store, work behind the scenes at events, offer complimentary accommodations during out-of-town fundraising, or help the SPCA in any way are appreciated. The SPCA's volunteer driver, Stephen, who ferries animals back and forth to the veterinary clinic holds a special place in the ranks of those volunteers and is wished a happy 60th birthday.

The SPCA will collect donations at Perth-Andover and Grand Falls NB Liquor Stores on May 15, 16 and 17. Anyone with an hour to two to spare who would like to help out can contact Sue Morehouse.

The SPCA will have a booth at the Seniors' Fair hosted by Mike Allen, MP for Tobique-Mactaquac, to be held on May 21 at the Tobique-Plex in Plaster Rock. Up to 35 booths covering a wide range of topics will be set up on that day.

Local residents are reminded the SPCA is accepting yard sale items at the shelter. Good quality items will be accepted but no large appliances. Baby and children's items should also meet today's safety standards.

Residents are also reminded the SPCA can no longer accept Save-Easy grocery tapes.

Memorial donations can be made to the SPCA in memory of a person or pet. The Victoria County SPCA will send out cards as requested and can even send birthday cards if someone wants to make a donation in recognition of a milestone.

Anyone cleaning out a winter's worth of refundable bottles is reminded these can also be donated to the Victoria County SPCA. The Mapleview Redemption Center will take care of getting the refund to the SPCA.

Needs at the shelter include laundry detergent, dish detergent, bleach, toilet tissue and garbage bags. Spring cleaning sales make this a great time to stock up on these items and donate a few to the SPCA.

The Victoria County SPCA can be contacted at 356-1117 or 2238 Route 109, Arthurette, NB, E7H 4C2.
