Nominations requested for Environmental Leadership Awards

Nominations for the 2008 Environmental Leadership Awards are now being accepted by the Department of Environment.
The purpose of the awards program is to celebrate the achievements of New Brunswickers who have made an outstanding contribution to the protection of the environment and who have encouraged positive environmental action by others.
"It's very important that the environmental leaders in our province receive recognition for their dedication to the protection of our environment," Environment Minister Roland Haché said. "I ask all New Brunswickers to nominate any person, group, or business that has made exceptional efforts to be a good steward of the environment in New Brunswick."
The six Environmental Leadership Award categories this year are:
Lifetime Achievement: Any individual with at least 15 years of outstanding contribution to the environment;
Individual Youth: Any youth under 18 years of age;
Youth Group: Any group, class or school whose members are under 18 years of age;
Individual: Any individual over 18 years of age;
Business: Any private-sector enterprise; and
Communities, Groups and Organizations: Any city, town, village, local service district, not-for-profit organization or group whose members are over 18 years of age.
All nominations should include a project or activity description 250 words or less. The nomination period will end on June 20.
Following the deadline for nominations, an independent judging panel will choose the top candidates in each category. The nominees who are selected will be presented with an Environmental Leadership Award later this year.
"Every environmental leader can inspire many more New Brunswickers to be promoters of environmental sustainability, which our province must achieve in order to be self-sufficient by 2026," Haché said. "The Environmental Leadership Awards are a great way to show people of all ages that each of us can and should be a champion of the environment."
