Tobique homecoming to feature quilt and artisan show

The work of the region's most seasoned stitch-makers and crafters will be celebrated with a Quilt and Artisan Show and Sale during this year's Tobique Homecoming in Plaster Rock.
The show will be held at the Tobique-Plex in Plaster Rock on Friday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The quilt and artisan show and sale has been a popular part of the Homecoming schedule in previous years. It celebrates the work of quilters past and present as well as giving everyone an opportunity to see the talented craftsmanship that exists on the Tobique.
Anyone interested in showing or placing a quilt for sale can contact Carol Jarvis at 356-2458. Danny Braun at the village office is looking after the artisan portion of the show and can be contacted at 356-6166.
The Quilt and Artisan Show and Sale is one element of a weekend packed with events for Tobiquers. The fun will start on Friday, Aug. 1 with registration at Donald Fraser Memorial School from 6:30 to 10 p.m. A talent show featuring a "queens" pageant for some of the Tobique's most beautiful "babes" will start at 7:30 p.m. also at DFMS.
On Saturday, Aug. 2, there will be a Homecoming parade starting at 11 a.m. from the Plaster Rock Tourist Park. It will be followed by a street festival that will feature an Elvis impersonator.
"As part of the Main Street party on Saturday, Aug. 2 from noon to 4 p.m. an Elvis Presley impersonator will be performing in the center of town," a release from the Homecoming committee stated. "Many Main Street retailers will be engaged in the event by offering in-store specials, sidewalk sales and treats for the kids. Restaurants will feature breakfast and lunch specials throughout the day."
Later on Saturday, everyone will gather back at the Tobique-Plex for the Homecoming dance to be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
"Flat Top, Toronto Independent Music Award Winners, will be performing at the Homecoming Dance, the first one to be held inside the new Tobique-Plex facility," the release added.
On Sunday, Aug. 3, there will be a Homecoming church service at 9 a.m. followed by a golf tournament at the Plaster Rock Golf Club starting at 10 a.m. A family park party will be held at the Plaster Rock Tourist Park from 2-4 p.m. and will feature swimming, games for everyone, face painting and a barbecue. Music and a giant fireworks display will entertain everyone from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Tobique Valley Middle High School.
On Monday, Aug. 4, there will be a farewell breakfast at the Tobique Lions Community Center from 8 to 11 a.m. New Brunswick Day Awards of Merit will be presented to outstanding citizens at 10:30 a.m.
