A university professor who inspired thousands with his message of hope and determination, despite having only months to live, has died.

Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University, died early Friday at his home in Virginia.

The 47-year-old became famous after the "last lecture" he delivered in September 2007 became an Internet sensation, watched by millions online.

I haven't had a chance to read the Last Lecture yet, but I intend to before the end of the summer.

Watch the Last Lecture on YouTube; then if you can find the Diane Sawyer interview with him and family, watch that, too....and read the book. The approach to life - and death - that Mr. Pausch had is nothing short of inspiring. I picked up the book as soon as it came out and have read it 3 times now. This is really a man who should have been able to get his thoughts, views and beliefs across to the whole world. My deepest sympathis to his family. He seemed a truly amazing person!
