Vandalism is a shame

letter to the editor

On August 13, I was back home visiting the Grand Falls area when my boyfriend and I decided to go for a walk by the falls. We noticed a few people outside enjoying the beautiful sunshine and thought nothing of it when we saw a couple of teenagers near one of the monuments in Lovers Lane during the lunch hour.
We never thought anything of it at first until we walked passed, and by chance looked back. On the reverse side, they had (“painted it”) with blood (found out later it was fake blood, as they left the tube as evidence).
These two teenagers, one on a bicycle, and the other on foot, were still writing on it as we walked away! They wrote (and I took pictures of this), and I quote, ("I love Marlena, I (heart) love Killing"). Then I can only guess that the next part was his signature, but it said ("F. Nathan").
Where do these kids get off doing this? My boyfriend said he would be right back and hastily walked back towards the bridge where a town employee was mowing the lawn. He told him of the situation, just as the two young teenagers left the area.
Why do this? What are you trying to prove? What was in it for you? Can you not find other creative ways to harness that anger, that problem that is obviously hurting you? Have respect for public property. Someday someone will do this to your property, your house and I will bet you anything you will not be happy with it. So why do it here? People in general are good, why must there always be bad apples in the barrel to ruin something for everyone else?
Disheartened,
Dieppe, NB
