Sidewalk an issue at P-A council meeting

The subject of sidewalks came up in several different forms at the regular Perth-Andover Village Council meeting held Monday evening, August 11, in the board room of the municipal building on West Riverside Drive. The first involved a citizen's problem with the sidewalk at the end of her driveway.
Madeline Lunn and neighbour Roger Robinson attended to explain the problems Mrs. Lunn, her husband Carvel and visitors have had with the Lunn driveway at 131 Fort Road. Because of the level of that street and the incline of the sidewalk up to her driveway, cars with little clearance sometimes scrape bottom when going in the driveway. Mrs. Lunn said she hadn't had that problem before the sidewalk had been raised.
"I want to know when they're going to fix my driveway," Mrs. Lunn told Mayor Rick Beaulieu, the councillors, Village CAO Dan Dionne and his assistant Justine Waldeck. "I've been living there since 1955 and I've never had any trouble until they built that new sidewalk. My car goes right up in the air when it goes in; it's up way too high."
Dan Dionne explained that the reason for the sidewalk's being built with its elevation was for drainage so that water wouldn't go onto the properties on that south side of the street but Mrs. Lunn simply said that since the sidewalk changes it is worse and in the winter it is even more of a problem. "Sometimes I can hardly get out of the driveway."
"The driveway's is right up just like this," said Roger Robinson, gesturing with his hand to show the sharp incline. "If you come out of the driveway real fast your car's nose would hit right on the ground. If you took your little car up there it would clean the exhaust off."
Mayor Beaulieu said that he, the village councillors and Perth-Andover's Public Works Commission would take a careful look at the driveway within the next week and try and solve the problem as soon as possible.
