Julia Wilkinson tops the pack in 200-metre individual medley at Summer Nationals

WINNIPEG - Julia Wilkinson of North York, Ont., clocked 2:13.63 to top the pack in the women's 200-metre individual medley preliminaries at the Summer Nationals swimming competition on Saturday.

It's been a good week for Wilkinson so far - she already has three victories and two national records at the competition.

Calgary's Erica Morningstar was second behind Wilkinson at 2:16.53 followed by Tanja Hunks of Vancouver at 2:18.17. All three are set for the Beijing Olympics.

Jen Beckberger of Whitby, Ont., won the 50 freestyle while Martha McCabe of Vancouver posted the best time in the 200 breaststroke.

In men's action, Mike Brown of Calgary had the top time in the 200 breaststroke at 2:14.05. Marco Monaco of Toronto was second at 2:17.20 and Mathieu Bois of Montreal third at 2:19.53.

Nicolas Bovell of Montreal won the 200 IM while Brent Hayden of Vancouver won the 50 freestyle.

The competition ends Sunday.
