Anderson Family Day fun planned for Sunday

The annual Anderson Road Family Day is a summer tradition eagerly anticipated by the young and young at heart. This will be the 54th year for Family Day which began in 1954 and it will be held on Sunday, July 20 at the St. Theresa's Catholic Church grounds.
Teresa Madore has been part of Family Day throughout its history and noted the event is a celebration of traditional values.
"It's all for life," Madore stated. "That's our overall theme."
The day will kick off with a parade that will travel up the Anderson Road to the church grounds starting at noon. Everyone is welcome to enter a float, dress up in a costume or cheer on the participants.
Once at the church grounds, prizes will be announced for the best parade entries. It will then be time to crown the new Anderson Road mini king and queen. The royal capes and crowns will be placed on the mini monarchs as last year's royalty relinquish their titles.
Activities on the church grounds will include a multitude of skill games, a flea market and a canteen serving up everyone's favourite treats. John Kirkland, auctioneer, will be taking bids on a variety of items during the auction.
"And something new we're going to have this year is a professional clown to entertain the children," Madore said. "He's going to be making balloon animals and giving them away to the children so that should be a lot of fun."
The clown will perform on the church grounds for about two hours during the afternoon.
Other popular events will include the promotional booth where everyone can draw a ticket in the hopes of winning a prize and there will also be bingo games throughout the afternoon. Musical entertainment this year will be provided by the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers.
"This will be the first time for the fiddlers and we're really pleased to welcome them," Madore noted.
A supper featuring beans, salads and other potluck fare will be served at the church from 4 to 6 p.m. After supper, there will be a penny bingo for a variety of prizes.
When dusk settles over the landscape, there will be a family fireworks display to end the evening with a bang.
