Grand Falls needs a conservation plan

The Grand Falls region shares the geography defined by the Falls and Gorge with the Upper and Lower Basins. Our communities of Saint André, Grand Falls and Drummond need a cooperative Conservation Development plan and regime that recognizes the sensitivity of the land next to the Little River, Falls Brook and the Saint John River to erosion, storm water runoff and flooding.
New buildings next to the water need to be located and constructed to both reduce storm water runoff and recognize the significance of floodplains. Existing residential and commercial buildings need to use well established best management practices to reduce the effects of flooding, erosion and the negative impact of snow storage and removal.
The mouth of the Little River is blocked by the present bridge and causeway which act as a dam. A new open structure bridge is required to reduce flooding.
A green buffer next to the Basins, Little River and Falls and Gorge should be established and managed to preserve the banks of our waterways and promote the public use of our unique landscape.
Yours,
Frank Johnston,
